Morristown: Where America Survived

If you didn't get a chance to watch it on your local PBS station, you have to check out Morristown: Where America Survived. (It is about 28 minutes long and can be watched on-line). The documentary covers the experience of the Continental Army at Morristown, NJ in the winter of 1779-1780. I like this documentary not only because I grew up just outside of Morristown and Jockey Hollow, but because it challenges the common notion that the Valley Forge winter of 1777-78 was the worst winter the Continental Army endured during the Revolution.

See my previous post on this topic.

The documentary is based John Cunningham's book The Uncertain Revolution.

I was unaware that at one point Jockey Hollow was the fifth largest city in colonial America. I probably learned this on a 5th grade field trip, but totally forgot about it.
