Nicholas Evan Sarantakes's blog, "In the Service of Clio," has a very informative post about public history. He defines "public history," reflects on the educational background needed to qualify as a "public historian," discusses what public historians do, and addresses some of the problems that they face. The piece ends with some avenues to find jobs in public history.
This is must reading for anyone interested in pursuing this field.
