I think there's a subtle irony in FoxNews lamenting the decline of American civil religion and lambasting the rise of political correctness - which group of people is essentially saying, "Bah, humbug!"?
Instead of ignoring the nay-sayers in order to cherish the spirit of Christmas - the reason for the season - they become the nay-sayers. In so doing, they enshrine childishness as patriotic, and conflate pettiness with taking a stand for their freedoms, which are often not even under attack.
I wonder if we will be able to defend our freedoms when they are actually under attack, when FoxNews and company continue to deafen the ears and harden the hearts of people who would otherwise hear what we have to say to them.

Talk about petty.
