Using the Past to "Save" Our Nation

The January issue of the OAH Magazine of History is devoted to "History Wars."  I am thrilled to have the lead article in this issue: "Using the Past to 'Save' Our Nation: The Debate Over Christian America."  At the moment, the piece is only available to members of the Organization of American Historians (what better time to join the OAH!) and I am not sure if and when it will come out from behind the membership wall.

Much of the essay, as you might expect, draws from Was America Founded as a Christian Nation?: A Historical Introduction and some of my experiences traveling and speaking about the book.
