This sets up a very interesting race in November between two faculty members at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. The guy who beat Cantor is David Brat. He has a B.A. in Business Administration from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, an M.Div from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D in Economics from American University. He teaches in the Economics Department at Randolph-Macon and directs the BB&T Moral Foundations of Capitalism Program at the college.
Brat's opponent in November will be a Democrat named Jack Trammell. He directs the Randolph-Macon honors program and the college's Disabilities Support Services. He also teaches course in disability studies in the Sociology Department. According to his online vita, Trammell has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Grove City College, a place that, ironically, is known as a bastion of conservative thought. He is also a writer who appears to have dabbled in southern history and culture.
This should be an interesting race for Cantor's old seat. It should also make for some interesting faculty meetings this Fall at Randolph-Macon College.
